The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 created unprecedented demand for pool products. In addition, last summer’s devastating hurricane in Louisiana damaged the plant in Lake Charles that produces many of the key ingredients used in pool and spa chlorine products for North America. The combination of those two events has resulted in an industry-wide shortage of chlorine tabs this year.

While the plant is being rebuilt and is expected to reopen, the anticipated strain will limit how many of our Clorox® Pool&Spa™ chlorine products are available at our retailers.

What can you do?

Here are three good ideas on steps you can take to keep your pool swim-ready:
1

Stay on Top of Maintenance

  • Remove visible debris that can carry bacteria
  • Skim water surfaces and vacuum pool bottom
  • Clean your filter often

2

Boost Pool Chemical Performance

  • Apply a preventative algaecide to reduce demand on chlorine
  • Add a clarifier treatment to remove contaminants that also increase the workload on chlorine

3

Use Pool Chlorinating Liquid as a Substitute

  • If you’re unable to find chlorine tablets, Chlorinating Liquid is a convenient alternative
